"It’s like living at a resort!" - A Village Woods Fairways Testimonial
“I always say that this is a little piece of heaven on earth,” Doug VanVuren says. He’s talking about his 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom townhome at the Village Woods Fairways neighborhood. He and his wife Audrey have lived here since 2019, and moving here is a decision they couldn’t be happier about.
After living in South Holland for over 40 years, a place where they’d raised their two daughters and invested in their community, Doug was planning his retirement from Ozinga after 36 years, and they were both thinking about what their next adventure might be. “There was an open house at the Fairways, and we thought we’d check it out,” Audrey said. After all, every Thursday for 30 years, Doug had been playing golf at the Balmoral Woods Country Club.
During their visit, they fell in love with the campus. “We love how pretty it is here,” Audrey says, and Doug agrees. “The townhomes are built so well. I told Audrey that I wouldn’t mind living here, and we never looked back.”
Doug and Audrey chose a townhome with a spectacular view of the lake, the trees, and the golf course. Their home is also conveniently located right next to the gazebo, where the Fairways residents get together for parties and meetings. The VanVurens are both active 60-somethings, and they’re loving all the opportunities retirement is giving them. Audrey became president of the Fairways Board, while Doug grabs his kayak and fishing pole and spends time on the water. They both enjoy walks around the property, enjoying the breathtaking scenery and walking paths.
But they enjoy their downtime, too! Their spacious townhome allows them plenty of room to host their six grandchildren for overnight visits. “We have a walkout basement, which is really convenient,” Audrey says. “And the grandkids love to watch wildlife on our deck outside our big sliding window.” Audrey has hung some birdhouses and birdfeeders, and in the winter, the outdoors looks like a Christmas card.
