Park Place of Elmhurst offers residents beautiful living accommodations and an active lifestyle. More importantly, residents discover a sense of community and new connections while giving peace of mind to their families. For Howard’s parents, Jeanette and Louis, finding the right place to call home was an important decision that ultimately provided them with comfort, companionship, and quality care in their later years.

After 30 years in Wisconsin, they moved closer to family to ease the burden of home maintenance. The first apartment they moved into was eventually transitioned into a condo. They realized they didn’t want to spend their days alone and discovered the vibrant community at Park Place of Elmhurst filled with things to do. They liked that it was a religious community associated with their church, was close to their son’s work, and they could watch sporting events practically in their backyard at Timothy Christian High School, which is right next door.

As Howard’s parents aged into their 90s, he knew the likelihood of them requiring assistance would rise. He loved the well-lit hallways, inviting eating areas, and thoughtfully laid-out floor plans. Howard appreciated that if their health needs changed, they could be provided higher levels of care, including assisted living, memory support, rehabilitation, or skilled nursing. Moreover, his parents’ decision to move to a Life Plan Community ensured they would have access to all these benefits at a predictable cost.

Jeanette and Louis quickly became part of the community, forming new friendships and engaging in activities that brought them joy. Louis, a veteran, enjoyed spending time in the lounge and library, reading the newspaper, and relaxing with fellow residents. He also loved playing ping pong, staying active, and sharing stories with those around him. Jeanette fully embraced the social atmosphere, participated in events, revitalized the community gift shop, and managed it for six years.

Louis passed away in 2023 at the age of 98. As time passed, Jeanette needed additional support, and transitioning to Assisted Living was a natural step. She received help with daily tasks like dressing and bathing before passing at 98. Having his mother at Park Place gave Howard tremendous peace of mind. When she needed to go to the hospital, he didn’t have to worry about remembering every detail of her medical history; the Park Place of Elmhurst team was there to coordinate with doctors and the hospital staff, ensuring seamless communication and care.

Howard saw firsthand the difference a strong, supportive community makes. The nurses, aides, activities coordinators, and receptionists all made his parents feel at home.

Ultimately, what mattered most was that Jeanette and Louis had a high quality of life until their very last day. They were surrounded by people who cared, engaged in a community that enriched their lives, and had the support they needed when it mattered most.

At Park Place of Elmhurst, we were honored to be part of their journey, providing the care, connection, and peace of mind that every family deserves.
