Park Place of Elmhurst

"Living in a place like this really keeps you young.” Linda Seaberg, Park Place resident

PPE_Linda_Seaberg_blog_Portrait_350x350.pngLinda Seaberg has always been a very active, social person. Born and raised in Minnesota, she moved to Chicago for work where she met her husband. They lived in Chicago, Darien, and Plainfield together all while raising their family. After her husband’s passing, she knew she did not want to stay in their large home, so she bought a condo in Burr Ridge where she lived for seven years. As her friends started to move away, it just wasn’t the same. “I thought I just needed to find more socialization, more things to do.” So, she took the advice of her brother and sister-in-law, who live in a retirement community in Williamsburg, VA, who suggested she consider a move to a retirement community.

She did seven months of research, visiting a number of different communities, “I must have come back to Park Place about 10 times,” laughs Linda. “I just got such good vibes here. Other communities were way too big, while Park Place just felt like home.” The welcoming atmosphere made her realize she could do this. She could make the move to a retirement community.

Even though Linda was a very active person before moving to Park Place, there were those days when she didn’t have anything to do, “You can only clean so much, and I would read, and I’d watch TV, and I’d read, then go out for a walk and I’d come back and think ok, now what do I do. Whereas here, I know there’s something I can do any minute of the day.”

“At first my kids said, ‘really mom, you’re going to an old peoples’ home,” Linda chuckles, “and I said well it’s not that. I’m going to start out independent, which is what I am now, but if I want someone to talk to all I have to do is walk downstairs.” She knows she can always find someone whether it’s in the Library where she meets up with others to work on puzzles or down in the Bistro, there’s always someone around. “Living in a place like this really keeps you young.

She felt at home as soon as she moved in. By taking advantage of marketing events, Linda was able to meet a few people prior to moving in by coming and joining them for lunch a few times. “Everyone was just welcoming, so friendly, I can’t even describe it. Even the people who work here are just always so sweet, so nice, and accommodating.” To this day, Linda continues to meet and make new friends.

“After I moved in, I told my kids it was the best decision I ever made.” There are so many people to talk to and so much going on. There are things to do: physical therapy if you need it, you can go to the gym, you can go to the pool, you can go for a walk around the beautiful grounds. There are also activities and events planned with Timothy Christian School students like sporting events, plays, and dinners to enjoy.

Because Linda made the move when she wanted to, on her agenda, she can take advantage of all that Park Place has to offer. She has no hesitancy recommending Park Place to others saying, “I’m having a great time; I’m having a BALL!”
