The Gift of Kindness: Providence families show their support and appreciation

It’s difficult to imagine a profession that is working harder than our healthcare workers. We’ve been overwhelmed by the encouraging words and thoughtful gifts we’ve received from the families of our residents.

Jackie Hall, Life Enrichment Director, has felt the love. “One family created a thank you sign to our staff and hung it on a bench that’s right by our front entrance,” she says, “and they also dropped off goodies for employees. Another family ordered pizza and had it delivered for our team members.” For many people who are unable to serve their family members themselves, the relief they feel knowing residents are having their needs met is a beautiful thing. Throughout our organization, not a day goes by that we don’t hear thankful words from residents and families.

Dave Tiemersma, Administrator at Park Place Health & Wellness Center, echoes that sentiment. “We have received many delicious treats and cards from families expressing their thanks for our work,” he says. “A few families have even brought in entire meals for staff. Residents put notes of appreciation on colored sticky notes, which have been put up around the buildings. One individual made handcrafted cards for each of the residents at the Victorian Inn. Someone is always doing something to say thanks, and it means the world to us.”

Social distancing and stay-at-home mandates add to feelings of isolation, but encouragement from the community makes us feel as if we are closer together. Residents and staff together have become family even more than usual this last year. We thank all of you for your kindness and support.
