“He wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.” - A Royal Atrium Inn Testimonial
When Bob & Eleanor Hughes moved to Royal Park Place over a decade ago, it was the perfect fit for them. Eleanor was in the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s, and it was easier for Bob to care for his wife in a retirement community, where they wouldn’t have to worry about cooking and where they had plenty of friends.
“They were both very happy, very pleased,” Ron DeVries, their son-in-law, says.
After Eleanor passed away, Bob continued on his own at Royal Park Place, but the transition of losing a spouse was hard on him. Then, after a few falls and a broken hip landed him in the hospital, doctors concluded he was having issues with his blood pressure medicine. It was clear that medication management was getting more complicated, and monitoring the effects was more than Bob was able to do on his own. For Bob, who was used to an active, independent lifestyle, he felt a loss of freedom.
“His mood changed, and he was losing his strength and his spirits,” Ron says. Knowing that Bob would have a hard time living on his own again at Royal Park Place, Ron suggested a move to Royal Atrium Inn.
“He jumped at that idea,” Ron says. “He thought that would be great.”
Bob began to thrive again as soon as he moved in. He’s back in good spirits and has made a lot of friends, and he’s gotten some of his strength back. His medication is delivered and monitored by staff, which gives Ron and his family so much peace of mind.
“The aides here are incredible,” Ron says. “They care so much about what they do. I even see them reading devotions to the residents at mealtime. They’re special, really special.”
Ron brings Bob wintergreen mints to give out to the Royal Atrium Inn staff who Ron says treat him like family. “He always says he’s so glad he’s here,” Ron says. “He says he can’t imagine being alone in a big house or a condo. Here, he’s happy and he’s cared for. He wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, and we all agree.”
