“The people here care, and you can tell.” - A Royal Atrium Inn Testimonial
A positive attitude makes a big difference, and Marge Kloosterman has always found a way to look on the bright side. This outlook has served her well as she brought up her children, and later, after losing her husband, she says she turned to God to get her through. “I rely on Him at all times,” she says. “I’m so thankful for Him in my life.”
About a year after her husband passed away, she began to feel that her country house and property were just too much for her to keep up. “She wasn’t seeing too many people, and she didn’t enjoy cooking for one,” her son Lon Kloosterman says. “We asked her if she was ready for a change.”
Lon and his sisters had a family friend who was selling her condo at Royal Park Place, and the family jumped at the opportunity to purchase a spot at the friendly retirement community.
“It was a great transition for her,” Lon says. “She got pretty involved in every activity—Wii bowling, dinners with friends in the dining room. She could have as much community as she wanted. And when she had enough, she could go back to her apartment and enjoy time alone.”
The years passed, and Marge began needing a little more assistance. After a short trial stay at Royal Atrium Inn, everyone realized now was a good time to move to the Assisted Living side of campus.
“She just loves it,” Lon says, and Marge agrees, saying, “I love everything about it here.” Marge gets exercise using her walker strolling through the indoor garden area, and she enjoys the on-campus spiritual services. However, everyone agrees that having healthcare assistance available has changed everything.
“Someone checks on her regularly,” Lon says. “They make sure she remembers to take her medicine. We know she’s eating better and that people care about her here. We as her children can’t be there all the time, so it’s a comfort for us to know that someone’s looking in on her. She has independence to do what she can for herself, but for everything else, there’s somebody there if needed. And it’s not just the staff—the residents look out for one another, too. It’s just a special, special place.”
Lon says the staff on campus are incredible. “Everyone, from the management to the caregivers and everyone else has been awesome from minute one,” he says. “The people here care, and you can tell. There’s just so much security knowing that.”
