“You’re never bored here.” - A Village Woods Testimonial

Richard Metzger is constantly on the move from the minute he wakes up until it’s time for him to go to bed. After breakfast, he usually heads to the gym, where he works out for at least an hour each day. “I use every machine,” he says proudly. Upon seeing his dedication, the staff gave him weights so he can work out in his room on the days he can’t get to the gym. He also does a lot of walking around the community. “When you get up into your 90s, you gotta move around if you don’t want your joints to stiffen up. You gotta keep going, and that’s what I’ve been doing all my years. I just keep going.”

Richard has lived at Village Woods for two years and exclaims, “You’re never bored here. I get up in the morning, and before I know it, I’m in the bed again!”

Richard says “Living alone was all right during the day, but in the evening, it was lonesome because I was by myself.” Now that he’s living at Village Woods, he has people to talk to all the time. “There’s always people in the sitting room you can go and talk to in the evening.” And with so many activities to keep the people going, the day is over before he realizes it.

“I love this place because the scenery is beautiful. They keep everything nice and clean. The women that clean my room once a week do a great job.” He enjoys his neighbors as well. “I have a lot of fun with the people here. We joke around, play games. I have a ball here. Everything I need is right here—there’s nothing more I can ask for.”

While living in his condo, Richard had to do all of his own cleaning, shopping, and cooking, “I wasn’t much of a cook,” he adds with a chuckle, so he resorted to eating fast food, which he knew was not good for his diet. He got to the point where he just couldn’t do it any longer and made the decision to move to Village Woods, which has made his life so much easier. “You don’t have to do a thing here. We have a menu and you can pick out whatever you want.” He is happy that he now has a healthy, fat-free diet. “The food is delicious!” he exclaims.

“The staff are here for you. Whatever I need, they’re there for me and that means a lot.” Richard continues, “I’m glad I’m here. I told my kids this is the best move I ever made. Village Woods is warm and feels like home. Whatever you want is here.”
